The Labour Commissionerate under the Labour Department of West Bengal is responsible for enforcing the West Bengal Shops and Establishments Act, 1963. This law requires all shops and businesses to register, give appointment letters to employees, pay wages on time, allow proper leave and holidays, follow fixed working hours, and open and close at set times. It also helps workers get back any unpaid or wrongly cut wages.
Process For Obtaining Shop and Establishment Registration
Step 1: Visit the Official Portal
Go to the West Bengal Labour Department website for online registration.
Step 2: Create a New Account
Sign up as a new user with your basic details and verify your mobile number/email.
Step 3: Fill Out the Application Form
Log in and fill out Form with:
- Name of the shop/establishment
- Address
- Owner's/Manager’s details
- Nature of business
- Employee details
Step 4: Upload Required Documents
Attach scanned copies of the required documents (see list below).
Step 5: Submit and Pay the Fees
Submit the application and pay the applicable registration fee online via the payment gateway.
Step 6: Verification by Labour Inspector
The concerned Labour Department officer may conduct physical verification or scrutinize the documents digitally.
Step 7: Get the Registration Certificate
Once approved, the Registration Certificate will be issued online and can be downloaded for your records.
